Sometimes a problem with your electric bike can be easily fixed with simple troubleshooting.
PROBLEM: Power on, but motor not working
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
- Motor not connected correctly.
- Rotation disc damaged or not close enough to sensor.
- Brake lever is pulled in, triggering the cut off sensor.
- Loose connection or controller fault.
SOLUTION:
- Check connection plug is pushed together fully.
- Clean and push closer if needed. Contact dealer if damaged.
- Make sure both brake levers are fully out, not triggering the sensor.
PROBLEM: No power at all
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
- Uncharged or dead battery.
- Key not turned on.
- Faulty switch or loose connection somewhere, ie the LED display.
- Faulty controller.
SOLUTION:
- Recharge the battery and try again.
- Check the key is in the on position.

PROBLEM: Travelling shorter distances per charge than rated
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
- Hill climbing, frequent stop/starting, head wind or heavy load, excessive use of throttle.
- Tyre pressures too low.
- Battery under charged or faulty charger.
- Battery capacity loss or damage.
SOLUTION:
- Use 1:1 pedal assist and pedal harder. Reduce the use of throttle and lighten the load whenever possible.
- Inflate tyre to correct amount indicated on tyre sidewall.
- Charge the battery.
- Contact dealer to inspect.
PROBLEM: Charging light stays green when I plug in to the battery.
The light should turn red to indicate the battery is charging and green when it is full
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
- Battery is already full.
- Charger lead not connected to the battery properly.
- Fault with the charger.
- The battery has gone in to sleep mode to protect the cells, due to not being charged.
SOLUTION:
- Drain some power by riding the bike and then try re-charging.
- Check the connection.
- Contact Dealer.
PROBLEM: Charger not working
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
- Fuse has blown.
- Charger has been damaged through misuse.

hello I have a roodog chic , on the control computer there is 1 red light , and underneath there is. 3 red lights flashing , can you tell me how to get it working please
Hi Jason thank you for getting in touch. Just a quick question when you are testing this do you have a hand on a brake and have the brake lever pulled in to hold the bike steady? If you have the brake lever pulled on the controls will flash. If this is not the case please get in touch with the office using our contact details and we can talk this through with you directly. Many thanks RooDog.
my ebike is 3 days old I was messing with the display now I can only use mode1,2 and 3 4 and 5 are unavailablejust not there? please help
Hi Mark the best thing for this query is to call us if you could – 01964 536570. Many thanks. Kind regards Roodog.
iv tweaked it on the display and the bike will now do 22mph we this damage the motor over time or th
e bettrey
We highly recommend that you do not change the display and retain the factory settings as sold. We must point out that by tweaking the settings you are not only voiding any warranty on the bike but also speeds over 15.5mph mean that the bike no longer conforms to UK law. RooDog is unable to accept any liability for the cost of any repairs, legal action or issues with the bike as a result of such action.
Hi my roodog is cutting out under load .. the battery seems okay ,the throttle runs the motor
While on the stand and the motor starts when you turn the pedals however when you get on it only goes for 50 feet before cutting I have to turn off and back on the key to power up again … any ideas what it could be.
Regards
Simon

Roodog polka. Made whirring noise yesterday, now cut out . Display lights up and lights work but no power assist. Have charged over night still nothing. The throttle makes a slight noise like it’s trying to do something but no power behind it. Made sure brakes are touching they are now. What do u suggest. It’s only 18mths old and used ten mins a day
Hi Belinda hopefully the email we sent you has helped fix the issue. If not please respond let us know and we can continue the conversation directly with you.
Kind regards, RooDog
Hi,
My throttle doesn’t seem to work.
Maybe I’m using it wrong, would appreciate any help.
Thanks.
Hi thank you for getting in touch. Couple of things to check:-
1. is the red throttle button on the right hand handlebar pushed in and engaged?
2. is the power level on the left hand handlebar on at least level 1?
3. are all the wires pushed in – no loose connections?
If all of these are checked and its still not working please call us on 01964 536570.
As a reminder, in line with UK regulations, the throttle is limited to 4mph which is really used only as a walk assist or to help to go from a standing start it will not propel the bike once above this speed.
Hope all of the above helps but do get in touch if you need more help.
Kind regards.

Hi, the rear light on my chic is not responding, and when it did I only got light on the outer rim of the light…is this normal.
but now no light at all, any suggestions.
Hi Roland thank you for getting in touch. The rear light is a reflector as well as a battery and is operated by 2 x AA batteries. So, if your button on top of the battery (just above the rear light) does not illuminate it – try changing the AA batteries. You locate these by removing the main bike battery from the bike frame, turn it over and you will see a panel to remove on the base of the rear light – please be careful when doing this in order not to snap the casing. A flat head screwdriver can help to ease the opening and just change the batteries as normal.
Hope this helps, if not please call the office 01964 536570.
Many thanks.
my display only let’s me use mode 1, 2, and 3 mode 4 and 5 are not availablefor me to use. my own fault I was trying to look through different settings and now like I say mode 4 and 5 just aren’t useable which lowers my speed to 10 mph? anyonegot any solutions please?
Hi Mark if you are having any difficulty please refer to your handbook or call the office to speak to the technician who will be more than happy to help.
Many thanks. RooDog.
Is it normal for the display which show energy left in battery to light up red on a chic handle bar display . It shows 5 red eliminated lights Does this mean battery is fully chargedx
Hi Patrick yes this is normal. When the battery is fully charged all five lights illuminate then as the battery depletes the illumination of lights reduces to indicated that the charge is reducing and telling you when to re-charge it.
Hope this helps – if you need more information please do get back in touch.
Many thanks.
Thanks for getting back to me .
The lights show up red is this normal
One last issue . When I press the charge indicator button on the battery it does not light up .could I perhaps not be doing this corr. Ie must the key be inserted in the battery or is there a switch on the battery that needs activating
The lights are red – yes, that’s normal.
Re the charge indicator – couple of things to check. Is the rocker switch on the side of the battery in the ‘on’ position and also is the key/lock engaged?
If you are still having trouble please call us on 01964 536570.
Many thanks.
I have only had my RooDog bike for about 4 weeks and my front light won’t come on any more when I hold down the + button for a few seconds .
Any suggestions
Many Thanks
Hi. Thank you for getting in touch. Sounds like it’s either a failure or a wire has moved/come out. Please check the wires are in fully and if you have a multimeter you could also check the voltage (this would indicate if you need a new controller).
Please call us and we can help diagnose the issue to find the solution and have your light working again. 01964 536570. Many thanks.
I have had a chic for 3 years now with no problems and have been well pleased with it…..However when I went to switch it on using the LED display on/off button it did not come on. The battery is fully charged. What i have found is that if I hold the on button down on the LED display and whilst turning the battery on using its switch the led display lights and things work. I can turn it off using the LED switch but again I cant turn it on again unless I use the same procedure. Any ideas what this could be?
Hi Richard,
Sorry you are having trouble. If you can get in touch with the office we can happily try and resolve this issue.
Kind regards

Hi
I have a problem with the power, when the bike is under strain such as going up a hill the bike shuts down has anyone got any suggestions?
Shaun
Hi Shaun,
This is usually a sign of a battery fault and may need to be replaced. How old is the bike/battery?
If you want to call us in the office to discuss then you are more than welcome. Tel: 01964 536570

When I use power assist it feels as though level 1 and 2 aren’t working effectively.Power assist only picks up at level 3 now.
Any suggestions please.
Hi Janet, many thanks for getting in touch. We ideally need a little more information in order to help you so please see the email we have sent to you. Many thanks.
Your advice would be more helpful if accompanied by an illustration. For example, what and where is the Rotation Disc? I have a problem which may well be located in this area – wherever that is!
Many thanks for your assistance
Hi Clifford we will send you an email with images for a more detailed description.
Many thanks.
